MATP

Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) was developed by Special Olympics to ensure athletes with severe/profound, multiple impairments (PMLD) and/or complex needs participate in PE and sport. MATP includes a core set of 4 skill areas, which an athlete can train in a sport related activity -

· Mobility (Gross motor skills)

· Dexterity (Fine motor skills)

· Kicking (Lower body)

· Striking (Upper body)

MATP benefits athletes in many ways. Athletes have increased physical activity which leads to an improvement in physical fitness and functional ability. MATP also offers more opportunities to perform sport activities, and a greater family interaction through sport involvement.
